Arts of Shogi

The "Merrymaking in a Grand Mansion" folding screen from the early 17th century. It portrays people entertaining themselves around a luxury home in ancient Japan. Comprised of six folding screens, the piece of art features several groups of people playing go, having a cup of tea, playing musical instruments, dancing and having a bath.

I'm really surprised as there are 3 peoples around the Shogiban. Actually it's more about the situation. They look like arguing about something : maybe someone who cheated ? Or they just disagree about strategy ?
Edo Period is supposed to be a peaceful period with no warfare, so I guess they're probably nobles, courtiers or bureaucrats.
Anyway it doesn't looks like a too serious game with the board all scrambled, and stuck to the general idea of the painting : entertainement.

If you're in Seoul at the moment, visit this incredible place !
